Monticello Blood Drive Collects Enough Blood to Help Up To 141 People at February Drive
March 11, 2021
Dear Editors,
Thank you for giving us a platform to recognize the great work that is done by the Red Cross.
The Monticello Red Cross blood drive, held on Friday the 26th of February, was a great success. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who came out on the beautiful almost-Spring afternoon. The new appointment-only schedule made every step of the process very efficient and most people did not have to wait at all. There were 47 units collected from 43 donors; 31 pints of whole blood and 16 doubles. The blood that was collected in one afternoon can help up to 141 people. A special shout out to the three First Time Donors - we hope that you had a good experience and that we will see you again!
The Red Cross has made some improvements on their systems, which are both touch-free and speedy. Temperatures are taken automatically as you enter the room - no thermometer in the mouth or any other place. Then there is the “rapid pass” system that is being used by the majority of people. This allows you to read the mandatory booklet of information at home or on your phone and show proof that you have completed it by presenting a barcode. With those two improvements at registration, donors are with a nurse in just a few minutes.
The canteen was a good place to end the donation experience. We would like to thank the folks at Subway of New Glarus for supplying the delicious sub sandwiches and Casey’s in Monticello for the wonderful variety of cookies. Also, thanks to the Monticello Lions and Lionesses for supplying the necessities: milk and ice and napkins and cups. Thank you also to the Zwingli Church for the use of the facilities. We had lots of space so everyone could be comfortable and safe. And all of the donors were able to take home a Culver’s “Pint for a Pint” coupon - Thank you to Culver’s of New Glarus for your donation.
Thank you to Monticello High School for allowing members of the National Honor Society to help with setup, and to the Monticello Lions for the help breaking down. Our community does a good job of coming together to help make this important event a success!
Stay well and be happy and we hope to see you in June!
Regards to all,
The Monticello Red Cross
