Library Board Appreciates Community's Support

October 4, 2018

Dear Editor,

Unity is strength...when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” - Mattie Stepanek

During the Public Comments session of the September 18th New Glarus Village Board meeting, the Library Board respectfully requested that the Village Board withdraw Glarner Park as the site for the new library. Later in that meeting the Village Board voted to rescind Resolution 16-18, effectively removing Glarner Park from consideration as a site for the new library. Within that same action, the Village Board directed staff to propose a new resolution to be considered affirming the Village commitment of up to $1 million toward a new library project. This outcome came after many months of discussion by both the Village Board and Library Board as well as input from citizen groups.

Although there is not yet consensus on a site, we retain our vision - a new library facility that will serve our community for many years to come. Moving forward we intend to work with the Village Board to determine the best location and continue to pursue fundraising and grant applications to ensure a fiscally responsible project. At all times we will not lose sight of the time and energy already devoted to this project and will do our best to have an expedient outcome. We appreciate the support shown by the community, including the Town of New Glarus’ generous Library Matching Grant.

If you would like to learn more, please contact a Library or Village Board trustee.

Village of New Glarus Library Board,

Linda Hiland, Shelly Truttmann, Kevin Budsberg, Suzi Janowiak, Petra Streiff, Jody Hoesly, and Bob Bergum
