Residents In Violation of Ordinance Urged to Correct Violation As Soon As Possible

August 30, 2018

Dear Editor,

I have been noticing that there are a lot of residences/businesses within the Village limits of New Glarus that are in violation of Ordinance 262-14, which states the following:

The owner, occupant or agent in charge of the premises shall cause to be affixed and to be maintained when so affixed to each principal building controlled by the owner, occupant or agent, the official street numbers assigned to that building. The physical numbers shall be not less than 2 1/2 inches high on a background of not less than three inches. Each required number shall be affixed on a particular building in such a location that it may be easily and readily seen by a person of ordinary eyesight on the public street or highway upon which the building abuts.

I hope all citizens will correct this violation as soon as possible, as it makes it so much easier for emergency services to find a location along with all of the other entities that might be looking for your residence/business. I will note that the fine amount for this violation is $162.70 and the Police Department is not looking at taking law enforcement action right away, but we are looking for conformity to the Ordinance by making citizens aware of the Ordinance.

I have been contacting property owners when I come across buildings that do not have the street numbers displayed and there have been a lot of them corrected already.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the New Glarus Police Department at (608) 527-2145.

Lieutenant

Jeff Sturdevant,

New Glarus Police

Department
