Schmalbeck Will Miss Wisconsin
August 2, 2018
Dear Editor,
Oh how I’ll miss our part of Wisconsin.
I’ll never watch the sun rise again OR the beautiful green fields. The corn growing so tall, the green carpets of alfalfa – the golden wheat fields standing out among the fields of green.
Or travel over the hills so high that give a panoramic view far in the distance, the wild phlox that grew along the roadside.
The friends we’ve made who call us by name when we’re in church or town.
My beautiful mountain ash with its clusters of tiny white flowers that turn to orange berries and my beloved catalpa trees with their bunches of little orchid blooms.
The deer who run through our woods and sometimes stop to eat or rest. How I love to watch them.
The pure snow-white landscape of winter. This log cabin we built among the trees.
I can’t cry anymore, but my heart is broken.
I am grateful to God for giving us this wonderful 29-year experience.
Goodbye to it all – especially the people who let us be a part of their lives.
Sincerely,
Marlene Schmalbeck
