Fermentation Tanks Arrive at New Glarus Brewing Company
July 20, 2017
Last week, sixteen fermentation tanks that were manufactured in Germany arrived in Milwaukee. On Monday, July 17, the first group of four tanks arrived at the New Glarus Brewing Company and were set in place with cranes.
Brewery President/Founder Deb Carey noted that, "As the brewery grows, there's always a bottleneck - something holding us back from making more beer." Needing more space for fermenting beer, the construction of third cellar was begun. There is also an expansion of the Beer Depot and tasting room being completed, to help serve the thousands of visitors the brewery gets each year. The Village of New Glarus reviewed and approved the design of both projects last year.
When asked about tanks being manufactured in Germany, Brewmaster Dan Carey noted, "We are a local company and always try to give preference to local vendors. Many of our tanks are US made. We have Wisconsin made tanks (Walker Tanks and Peterson Custom Stainless) as well as Feldmeier of Iowa. When we put this project out for bids, the local suppliers were either booked or decided the design was too specialized for them to bid."
Even with the expansion, the New Glarus Brewing Company does not intend to begin distributing outside of Wisconsin.
