Thank You, New Glarus Youth Vision Committee for the Trip to Chicago!
May 18, 2017
Dear Editor,
“When do we get to go to Chicago?!” This is the question that we hear the first day of every school year. The annual trip to Chicago is the highlight of fifth grade, and it is obvious that students (and parents) start looking forward to it well before the school year ever begins. Students leave school at 6:30 in the morning and are lucky enough to ride on a coach bus! They are treated to a day at the Willis Tower and Museum of Science and Industry, followed by authentic Chicago-style pizza at Connie’s Pizzeria, and finally arrive back in town about 9:30 p.m. All of this is courtesy of the New Glarus Youth Vision Committee.
We want everyone to know how much we as teachers and all of the students appreciate this opportunity that the Youth Committee has provided for more than 10 years. Memories that last a lifetime are certainly made each year, especially for students who have never experienced Chicago before. While this trip is the part that is near and dear to our hearts, we know that is just one piece of the bigger picture of the wonderful opportunities that the Youth Vision Committee provides for children in our community.
Everyone can help them continue to help our kids by supporting Music Fest on Memorial Day weekend. Without them, the Chicago trip would not be possible. We would also like to thank the Bank of New Glarus for generously providing matching t-shirts for the kids each year! We are humbled and proud to be the recipients of all of this generosity!
