Two New Glarus High School students have qualified as finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. Those two students are Sam Copeland and Kiehmi Tazeh.
Students are initially selected based off of their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as the initial screen of program entrants. By making it to the finalist round, both students are part of 16,000 students vying for 7,250 National Merit Scholarships to be offered this spring. The final media announcements of National Merit Scholar designees will be made in April, May, June, and July.
Winners are evaluated on their academic record, information about the school's curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, the high school's official written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership and the finalist's own essay.
Sam is the son of Chris and Amy Copeland and Kiehmi is the son of Ngii and Yvonne Tazeh. Congratulations to Sam Copeland and Kiehmi Tazeh!
