The New Glarus Männerchor and Jodlerklub Presents Silvesterchlausen

New Glarus first celebrated Silversterchlausen in 2022. The performers wear costumes, called Groscht, which are nature-based and adored with bells to "ring in" the new year. Silversterchlausen songs are a specific type of yodel, called Zäuerli. Zäuerli have no words and are filled with improvised harmonies.

The New Glarus Männerchor and Jodlerklub, in partnership with the Swiss Center of North America, will be celebrating the centuries-old Swiss festival called Silvesterchlausen (sill-VEST-er klaas-en) on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Organizer Gregory Long is proud to bring this tradition back for its second year and share lesser-known Swiss customs with American audiences.
