Deputy Injured in Crash During Pursuit

June 9, 2022

A Green County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured and a Ford Explorer patrol vehicle sustained significant damage during a pursuit early Tuesday morning.

At about 12:29 a.m., on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, a citizen reported that a vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds and operating in a reckless manner on CTH EE between Albany and Monticello. A deputy located a dark colored Chevrolet Camaro operating at excessive speeds nearby on CTH X. The vehicle fled when the deputy activated his lights and siren, and a pursuit occurred on several town roads and county trunk highways in the area. The pursuit was terminated in the vicinity of STH 59 and CTH FF when the deputy lost sight of the fleeing vehicle. About five minutes later, the deputy again encountered the vehicle on CTH OK near STH 11/81. A second pursuit occurred, and the vehicle fled on multiple roads in Spring Grove and Jefferson Townships. As the deputy rounded a curve at the intersection of CTH K and Union Road, the patrol vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch and collided with a fence and a tree and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The patrol vehicle sustained disabling front end damage and the airbags deployed. The deputy was wearing a safety belt and harness and was treated at the scene by Juda First Response and Green County EMS. He was later examined and released from the Monroe Clinic Hospital and is expected to return to duty in the next couple of days.

The Monroe Police Department investigated the crash.

The deputy is identified as Adam J. Bass, an eleven-year veteran of the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information that can assist in identifying the owner and driver of the dark colored Chevrolet Camaro involved is encouraged to contact the Green County Sheriff’s Office at (608)328-9401 or Green County Crime Stoppers at (800)422-7463.

Jeff Skatrud,

Green County Sheriff
