Brodhead Man Dies in Crash

On Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 7:43 a.m., Green County Sheriff’s dispatch received a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash on STH 104 north of CTH A, Town of Albany. Green County Deputies, along with Rock County Sheriff’s Deputies, Albany Fire Department, Albany Emergency Medical Services, Brodhead Fire Department, Brodhead Emergency Medical Services and Green County Emergency Medical Services, responded to the scene.
At the time of the crash, road conditions were wet and slush-covered from ongoing snow. Deputies arrived on scene and located a commercial motor vehicle blocking the entire roadway and a sport utility vehicle on the east side of the roadway. Deputies immediately began life saving measures on the driver of the sport utility vehicle until patient care was transferred to EMS.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Nissan Murano sport utility vehicle was northbound on STH 104 when it lost control due to the slush-covered roadway. The SUV crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound 2019 Freightliner straight truck. The collision caused moderate disabling damage to the Freightliner and it came to rest across all lanes of STH 104. The Nissan sustained severe disabling damage and came to a rest on the east side of STH 104. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, Robin Greenland, 62, Westby, WI, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Albany EMS to Mercy Hospital of Janesville. His seatbelt was used and there was no airbag deployment.
The driver of the Nissan, sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by Brodhead EMS to Mercy Hospital of Janesville. Upon arrival at Mercy Hospital, he was pronounced deceased. The male was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of crash and airbags did not deploy. Identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family. Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene with the commercial motor vehicle inspection and crash reconstruction. Green County Highway assisted with barricades and road detour routes.
On Monday, April 4, 2022, the Green County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the driver who died. Jacob A. Riley, 25, Brodhead, was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Mercy Hospital Janesville, due to injuries sustained during the crash. This is Green County’s second traffic fatality for 2022.
