New Glarus High School Has Two National Merit Scholar Semifinalists

Two seniors at New Glarus High School have been named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program - Ben Copeland and Merrick Fong.

Two New Glarus High School seniors have qualified as Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Those two students are Ben Copeland and Merrick Fong.

Students are initially selected based off of their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as the initial screen of program entrants. Approximately 1.6 million juniors were eligible and both students ranked in the top 50,000 of the highest scoring participants.

By making it to the Semifinalist round, both students are part of 16,000 students who are vying for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring. Ben is the son of Chris and Amy Copeland and Merrick is the son of Sam and Candy Pearson Fong. Congratulations to Ben Copeland and Merrick Fong.
