New Glarus Library Closure
March 19, 2020
With conflicting information and a rapidly changing environment, even a day-by-day approach is challenging when it comes to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
If your hands are dry from all the necessary scrubbing, and you’re feeling panicky about the next few hours let alone the next few minutes, you’re not alone.
As far as the library goes, we have made the difficult decision to close through at least April 5th. Although we do not want to deprive patrons of physical materials and the friendly interactions that we value so highly, we feel it is important at this time to sync our efforts with the schools and other public institutions in encouraging social distancing.
Overdue fines will be waived and we will work with you to suspend or reissue any holds that expire during the closure. Tax forms will continue to be available in the lobby as long as Village Hall remains open, and WiFi is accessible from most parking spaces surrounding Village Hall.
We are committed to providing digital library services as long as we can. Staff will be monitoring email for questions. Free e-books and audiobooks are available with your library card from Overdrive/Libby, and if you don’t have a card we’ll issue you one via email. We plan to post e-storytimes and recommended online resources to keep kids (especially those elementary-agers) engaged and reading. Keep an eye on our Facebook page.
We appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to welcome you back to the library as soon as we’re able.
