With the rise of cable news, much of journalism turned towards soundbites and infotainment. The internet accelerated this trend, with endless analysis of metrics and clicks and a move towards one page articles—because readers did not like scrolling down the page. Twitter and Facebook are perhaps the perfect example of this trend, with Twitter limited to 280 characters per tweet, and Facebook posts including only a sentence or two teaser above the link.

The press is still here, however.
