Penny War Raises Money for Green Cares Food Pantry

What happens when Engineers and Architects participate in a Penny War? Great Things! As a member of the Charitable Donations Committee at Ramaker & Associates, Inc. in Sauk City, WI, Cyndi Foley wanted a fun and competitive way to raise funds for their Charity of the Quarter - Green Cares Food Pantry in Monticello, WI.

After hearing about local schools participating in Penny War fundraisers, Foley decided to challenge her coworkers to one. Those who have participated in this particular fundraiser may recall how it typically works. A contest between elementary or middle school grades on who can bring in the most pennies (positive points) or sabotage other classes with silver (negative points). Now, imagine taking that to a whole new level by pitting different departments against each other at a highly competitive Architectural/Engineering firm. Foley made sure to challenge them to be "ruthless". Her amazing coworkers not only showed their ruthlessness, they displayed an overwhelming generosity by donating an awesome $1,151.70! With a $1,000 match from Ramaker & Associates, Inc., they donated a grand total of $2,151.70 to Green Cares.
"I was thrilled with how my Penny War turned out," said Foley. "It not only brought us together for a great cause, but we had a lot of fun and did something wonderful at the same time. One of our departments was especially creative with their donation - creating one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Burj Khalifa, out of pennies. Thank you to everyone who participated!"
