Belleville High School Names 2019 WIAA Scholar Athletes

March 14, 2019

Two graduating seniors, one boy and one girl, have been named Belleville High School's 2019 WIAA Scholar Athletes. Luke Kelly and Sydney Gentilli will receive medals from the WIAA later this spring at the school's awards ceremony.

Each year, member high schools of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association are invited to nominate one boy and one girl for Scholar Athlete honors. The program, which is underwritten by Marshfield Clinic, was launched in 1984 to demonstrate the positive impact of interscholastic activities.

To qualify for WIAA Scholar Athlete recognition, a nominee must have earned at least four varsity letters through the first half of his/her senior year and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

In addition to local awards, 32 of the more than 800 students nominated each year are selected for statewide recognition. Four boys and four girls in each of four WIAA divisions are honored at a ceremony held on the first Sunday of May each year in Wausau.

Kelly has earned six varsity letters and Gentilli has earned seven varsity letters in their respective careers; both carry cumulative GPAs over 3.9.
