Multi-Generational Band Opens Madison Jazz Society Fall Concert Series

The opening concert of the Madison Jazz Society’s fall concert series will take place on Sunday, September 9, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 2969 Cahill Main, Fitchburg. The Reuben Ristrom Quintet from Minneapolis will perform.
MJS President Linda Marty Schmitz said, “We are excited to present this group that features two father/son combinations. We are dedicated to ensuring the future of jazz and presenting a group whose senior members have passed their love of jazz on to their children fits right in with that purpose.”
With over 40 years as a musician, guitarist Reuben Ristrom’s experience includes night clubs, jazz festivals, concerts, shows, recording sessions, strolling ensembles, solo guitar or banjo and more. His styles include Dixieland, mainstream jazz, swing, standards, Latin, as well as a dose of vintage rock ‘n’ roll. Reuben’s son, vocalist Dan Ristrom, has his own Jazz project with his father and his own Funk/soul band, The Big Throwdown. In addition to this father/son combo, also performing will be Twin Cities reed player Doug Haining and his son drummer Trevor. Bassist Tom Lewis will join the four of them. All of the musicians are active in the Twin Cities jazz scene, along with performing all over the world.

Formed in 1984, the Madison Jazz Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization formed to encourage the performance of and education about jazz. It annually sponsors six concerts that attract jazz fans from all over the Midwest. The group awards grants to school music departments to enhance their jazz education programs.
