October 19, 2017

Green County Master Gardeners is pleased to announce Lisa Johnson, Horticulture Educator, Dane County UW-Extension, will be presenting “Small Bulbs-Beyond Tulips and Daffodils” at their upcoming meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2017, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Green County Justice Center, Monroe, WI. Learn about small spring flowering bulbs that are less common, such as Glory-of-the-Snow and Puschkinia. This presentation covers 13 species of small bulbs and a number of cultivars, and focuses on uses and cultivation.

Lisa Johnson grew up on Madison’s southwest side. Lisa’s mother and grandfather were avid gardeners, and her love of plant life was encouraged by high school biology teacher Marilyn Hanson. Lisa earned her undergraduate degree in Horticulture at UW-Madison and worked at various local garden centers and nurseries before returning to the UW for a graduate degree in Agricultural Communications. She started her Cooperative Extension career first in Milwaukee County before returning to Dane County. Lisa started the Teaching Garden at Dane County UWEX in 2004, as an outdoor classroom for Master Gardeners, children and the general public. When not gardening, she enjoys playing folk music on guitar, autoharp and bowed psaltry and sharing quality time with her cats.

The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association was formed in Green County in 2004 to provide Master Gardeners with opportunities for professional development and community service. Master Gardener Volunteers help to provide beauty and growth in communities for flower, plant, and vegetative areas.

Marilyn Sandin-Ross, GCMGA President, invites you to participate in the opportunities offered by the Green County Master Gardeners Program. The Green County Master Gardeners Association meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from February through October. Anyone interested in horticulture and gardening is welcome to join the association and you do not have to be a Master Gardener to be a member or to attend.
