New Glarus Man Dies in STH 69 Collision

On Friday, August 11, 2017, at 3:46 p.m., the Dane County Sheriff's Department received a report of a three-vehicle, injury crash on STH 69 near Argue Road, in the Town of Montrose.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Escape, driven by a 33-year-old female from Monroe, was southbound on STH 69 when she crossed the centerline and side-swiped a northbound semi truck, driven by a 54-year-old male from Waupun. John Marty, 79, New Glarus, was driving a Buick Verano northbound on STH 69, and could not avoid a collision with the Ford Escape as it continued into his lane. Marty was pinned and extricated from his vehicle by emergency personnel.
Dane County Deputies, Belleville Police, Belleville EMS, Belleville Fire Department, New Glarus Fire Department, New Glarus Area EMS Units 875 and 876, along with MedFlight, all responded to the accident.
Emergency personnel attempted life-saving efforts for over an hour on Marty, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
All parties involved were wearing their required seatbelts. A passenger in the Buick Verano was conveyed to an area hospital as a precaution. The female driver of the Ford Escape was conveyed to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team, assisted by detectives and patrol deputies, are continuing to investigate the crash. The names of some of the parties involved have still not been released. STH 69 near Argue Road was closed to traffic while the investigation continued and was re-opened at 9:46 p.m.
