Report Flood Damage

August 3, 2017

Green County Emergency Management is asking Green County residents to call them if they have had flooding or other damages to their home and property from the flooding that began on July 19, 2017. Governor Scott Walker issued a State of Emergency for 17 counties, which includes Green County. But this does not mean that a federal declaration was applied for. Counties need to show the state how impacted our residents and municipalities are from this flooding before an application can be made.

Even if you think your damages may be minor, every report is helpful. Please call (608) 328-9470 to report your damages. If FEMA is assistance is not awarded there may be other programs that become available, such as low interest loans to help cover the repair costs.

Residents must keep accurate records of their damages. Pictures are essential and keep all receipts of items that you purchased, such as new drywall, equipment rentals-such as carpet cleaners etc. If you have to throw out carpet or appliances, take a picture of them as well. It is very important to remove any mold that is growing, and you may have to treat the area several times. Use a mixture of a half cup of bleach and one quart of water or buy mildew cleaner. If you have allergies or other health problems you may want to consider hiring a cleaning service.

Red Cross is providing clean up kits at no charge. These kits are a bucket with bleach, scrub brushes, rubber gloves etc. They can be picked up at the Green County Sheriff’s Office or the Green County Health Department.
