UW-Extension Provides Grain Management in Low-Margin Years Meeting

 


UW-Extension Specialists are hitting the road with a series of talks and accompanying fact sheets that address how to best handle different aspects of grain production during low-margin years. The area meetings will start in February of 2017 and will take place at locations throughout the state. One of the area meetings will be held at the Green County UW-Extension Office, located at 2841 6th Street, Monroe, on February 20, 2017, from 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Each specialist will present information for about 30 minutes, with time for questions and answers. Presentations at the Monroe meeting will include: “Crop Budget Analysis for Low Margin Years” by Nick Baker, UW-Extension Ag Agent in Rock County; “Soybean Inputs that Deliver the Highest ROI in a Low-Margin Year” by Shawn Conley UW-Extension Soybean Specialist; “How to Survive and Thrive on Current Corn Price Projections” by Joe Lauer, UW-Extension Corn Specialist; “Low Grain Prices-Smart Disease Management Decisions” by Damon Smith UW Field Crops Pathology Specialist; “Managing Insects Economically Using Conventional Hybrids and Thresholds” by Bryan Jenson, UW Field Crop Entomology Specialist; and “Machinery/Technology Management and Tillage Considerations to Reduce Operational Costs” will be presented by Brain Luck, UW Engineering Machinery Specialist.

Two additional presentations on “Practical Weed Management for Low-Margin Years” by Dan Smith, UW-Extension Nutrient Management Specialist, and “Fundamentals of Soil Fertility Strategies for Success” by Carrie Laboski, UW Soils and Fertility Specialist will be presented via video at the Monroe meeting.

The seminar includes handouts and a meal and is open to farmers and agronomists in southern Wisconsin area. The program is being provided free of charge due to the generous sponsorships by Bank of Brodhead, UB&T; Badgerland Financial, and BMO Harris Bank.
