Town of Montrose Fatality Crash

At approximately 1:45 a.m., on Saturday, November 26, 2016, Dane County Deputies, Verona Police, Belleville Police, and Belleville Fire and EMS responded to the intersection of STH 69 and CTH A, in the Town of Montrose, for a one-vehicle crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Toyota SUV was traveling northbound on STH 69 when it failed to negotiate a curve and went into the ditch. The vehicle rolled multiple times, and struck several trees. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts and were pinned in the vehicle. The driver, a 52-year-old male from Madison, was extricated from the vehicle and had serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was transported via EMS to a local hospital. The passenger, a 50-year-old male from Madison, died at the scene.
Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Preliminary charges for the driver will include Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The name of the decedent is not being released at this time pending notification to family.
This crash remains under investigation.
