Jerry Apps in Belleville

An audience of about 75 people greatly enjoyed Jerry Apps' entertaining presentation on the history of Wisconsin agriculture last Thursday night.  Mr. Apps told about the wheat farms of the early settlers, the transition to the dairy farms our state is known for, and all of the other diverse ways people have made a living through agriculture.  Belleville Public Library thanks the Beyond the Page endowment for the grant, which funded this event.

Jerry Apps, Wisconsin's chronicler of all things rural in Wisconsin, was in Belleville this past Thursday night as a guest of the Belleville Public Library. He presented an hour-long program on his newest book, Wisconsin Agriculture: A History, published by Wisconsin Historical Society Press.

To research and write this new book, Apps had a lot of catching up to do. Not because he was lazy, that is one thing that can never be said about Apps. The catching up was due to a 93-year span since the last history of Wisconsin Agriculture was published in 1922. To write this new...
