Gas Line Break Forces Evacuations

On Monday, July 27th, crews working on the 2015 Street Reconstruction project struck and broke a large gas line on 5th Street and 8th Avenue. The break was reported at 1:59 p.m.
New Glarus Fire Department, New Glarus Police Department, New Glarus Utilities and WE Energies responded to the scene. New Glarus Area EMS was put on standby in case they would be needed. Residents for several blocks around the area were evacuated from their homes, and the electricity to several homes was cut off for several hours as a safety precaution.
