Local Golf Pro Opening Yoga Studio in New Glarus

David Haugh, PGA teaching pro at Argue-ment Golf Course, will be opening a yoga studio offering classes in yoga, tai chi, and mixed martial arts in late May or early June. The location will be in the “backtown” area, at 102 Second Street.

“I’ve passed the building numerous times and often thought to myself, ‘I’d really like to open up a facility offering yoga and other activities in that space,’” said Haugh.

Haugh is a class ‘A’ member of the PGA, a certified yoga instructor affiliated with the Yoga Alliance, and also holds an MA in Education along with his Wisconsin Public Educator license in Language Arts. He regularly subs at the middle and high school levels within the Verona-Area School District.

“Golf, yoga, tai chi and the martial arts in general have had a positive impact on my life. And I have seen these practices benefit other people as well. The repetition of these skills and exercises encourage a sense of centering and grounding, offering degrees of increased vitality and are fun to do,” Haugh said.  “It can also help your golf score,” he chuckled.

Haugh states that anyone at any age, without a serious medical condition, can enjoy these practices.

“Practicing yoga or tai chi has similarities to practicing golf. Each can be used as a means to unifying your physical body, emotions, and thoughts in the moment.

Some folks are under the misconception thinking that you have to be ultra-limber, or in the prime of your life to attempt yoga. But fortunately, the perception is currently shifting. I am seeing more and more people of all walks of life embracing these physical-mindful activities in a desire to add peace and balance to their lives.

The facility is for the community to enjoy. I hope folks will embrace it and utilize it as a place to compliment and enrich their lives. On that note, I’ve decided to call it the New Glarus Yoga Center, welcoming the community — and those outside of it too, of course — to come on in, take a class, and moderate the stress that we all contend with in our day-to-day challenges.”

Haugh welcomes any inquiries and can be contacted at newglarusyc@gmail.com or by phone at (608) 577-0677.
