Three New Glarus Teachers Achieve National Board Certification

Three New Glarus teachers were recently informed that they achieved National Board Certification, one of the teaching profession's highest marks of achievement. Kari Hedeman and Josie Wieser achieved certification in the category of Generalist/Early Childhood, and Lexa Speth achieved certification in the category of Social Studies-History/Early Adolescence.
National Board Certification is a very rigorous performance-based and peer-reviewed process that requires teachers to demonstrate proven impact on student learning and achievement. It typically takes at least one to two years for teachers to complete all four of the components, including: 1) a written assessment of content knowledge and pedagogical practices, 2) a portfolio of student work samples that demonstrate students' growth over time, 3) video recordings of interactions between the teacher and his/her students, and 4) reflection papers explaining how the teacher uses assessments and collaboration to advance students' learning and growth.
Superintendent Jennifer Thayer said, "We are very proud of these three teachers and their great accomplishment of becoming National Board Certified Teachers. It is an extremely demanding and thorough process, and these three teachers have demonstrated that they are among the elite in the teaching profession. We are very fortunate to have them teaching in New Glarus."
