Belleville's 2015 Homecoming

Dale Yurs

Wildcat pride ran high last week as the School District of Belleville hosted its annual homecoming activities. Homecoming brings students and staff of all ages together to celebrate our schools and community, while maintaining our learning and growing. All our students, Pre-K through 12, took part in the festivities, which helped build relationships throughout the district.

All of our Wildcat students came together throughout the week and displayed their school spirit through dress up days.

On Monday, students showed up to school in their class colors. Tuesday, students stayed nice and comfy in their pajamas. We saw their creative sides on Wednesday as they dressed as their favorite Disney character. On Thursday, patriotism shined through with red, white, and blue. And, of course, on Friday students sported their Wildcat apparel. Having each of the schools participate offered an opportunity for older kids to relate to our younger students.

Some of our High School students also had a chance to build relationships with younger kids by visiting them with the Wildcat. A few of our football players, along with the Wildcat, visited both the Elementary and Intermediate schools. While there, they revved up the kids and got them ready to cheer the team on during the homecoming game later that night.

At the High School, the homecoming spirit spread throughout each grade and created an electric atmosphere all week. Each year the high school grades compete against each other to earn spirit points. The grades paint rocks and decorate walls, each with their own themes for the week. During the week, the score for class is posted and students can keep track of their score.

Homecoming, although fun and exciting, also serves an opportunity to bring the district together. We hope to continue and encourage older students get to connect with the younger kids. High school students become mentors and role models. Building these relationships aides our purpose of becoming a community of learning. Homecoming branches far beyond the walls of the high school and reaches the other schools as well as the wider community.

Last week, Belleville got to celebrate with each other and had a fabulous time doing it. GO WILDCATS!
