Sugar River Euchre
March 16, 2023
They call it the Sugar River Euchre League Spring Tournament, but from what we witnessed at the Red Mouse on March 9th, it was a far cry from what we know as spring. As has been the case lately, last Thursday brought another night of snowy weather, keeping many of our normal tournament players home. But 24 true Wisconsinites braved the road conditions and continuous snowfall to have a chance at walking out of the Red Mouse as this year’s Spring Tournament champs. That honor was bestowed on Roger Ringgenberg and Dean Disch. They recorded a perfect 120 points, outpacing the nearest competitors, Steve Hoffmaster and Rodney Latham, by 12 points. One-point less than Steve and Rodney at 107 points, Dave Hook and Brad McGuire took third. Scott Hook and Erika Forseth came in fourth with 105, while Dave Herfel and Larry Losenegger secured fifth place with 101 points. The remaining scores were Opie Taylor and Tom Meyer 98, both John Baumgartner and Jim Day, along with Richard Laufenberg and Dewey Haag, had a 96, Chris Hook and Jeff Goebler, 94, Don Williams and Jolene Hook, 91. Randy Skogen and Keith Vodraska brought up the rear with 78 points.
After what turned out to be an unusual and somewhat eventful evening, everyone enjoyed some pizza served by the amazing Red Mouse staff. President Jerome Krantz announced the winners and distributed prize money to the top five places.
The second-half playoff match between the Norsk Cowboys and the Red Mouse Shufflers will take place at Norsk Golf Club on March 16th at 7:00 p.m. The winner of this match will play the Red Mouse Uff-Da in the 2023 Championship Match.
