VERNON P. DUPPLER

March 16, 2023

Vernon F. Duppler, 95, died at the Legacy of Noel Manor in Verona on Thursday, 9 March 2023. He had lived at the Legacy since 2019. He was born on 18 June 1927, to Fred M. Duppler and Zella (Remy) Duppler, and grew up on the farm north of Paoli.

During the final weeks of World War II, he joined the United States Navy and served as a Sea-Bee, stationed on the Island of Guam, building and maintaining air strips. After discharge from the Navy in 1947, he worked as a driver for Verona Redi-Mix for a short time. On 24 August 1948, he married Leila Jean Kunstman in Verona, and they joined his parents in the operation of the Duppler farm. He and Leila had six children who survive him, Dana of Paoli, Jerry (YuLi) of Las Vegas, NV, Dave (Tia) of Appleton, Tim of Madison, Larry of Tacoma, WA, and Mary (Ron) Battaglia of Warrenton, VA.

Vernon retired from farming in 1975. He tended bar at the tavern (Aebly’s) in Paoli for several years until becoming patrolman for the Town of Montrose in 1983. This was the job which he really loved, using heavy equipment to plow and maintain the 32 miles of public roads throughout the township. He worked for the Town until his final retirement in 1996.

Leila died in 1995. Vernon’s second wife, Marilyn, died in 2015. He also had one sister, Creola (Ed) Zweifel, who died in 2017.

In addition to his children, he is survived by nieces and nephews; cousins; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

At a future date in the summer, there will be a gathering at the Town Hall in Paoli to celebrate Vernon’s memory.
