Mae P. Beckwith

Mae Phyllis (Heimann) Beckwith, age 86, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Mae was born on May 19, 1936, in Primrose Township, at the Spring Grove Cheese Factory, located on the Hefty farm. Her parents, both immigrants from Switzerland, were John and Johanna (Schneider) Heimann.

Mae spent the first three years of her schooling at Dixon School, a one room country school. Her family then moved to New Glarus. On October 16, 1955, she was married to Robert H. Beckwith and they raised a family of seven children. They were married 60 years when Robert passed away in 2015.

Mae loved walking, reading, sewing, flowers, crossword puzzles and making sure all the birds were well fed.

She was the go-to grandma when Halloween or other costumes were needed. The long-eared bunnies she made for her grandkids were much loved. She enjoyed attending sports and school programs for her grandkids and great-granddaughter.

Mae and Bob also opened their home to two mentally challenged individuals and lovingly cared for them for over fourteen years.
