Helen M. Rowland, age 86, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born on November 10, 1936, in Chicago, IL, to Elva Henneman. At the age of 2, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Florence and Henry Hefty, in Monticello, Wis.

Helen graduated from Monticello High School in 1955. She continued her education at Green County Teachers College in Monroe, Wis., graduating in 1957.

Helen was united in marriage to Charles O. Rowland on April 11, 1958, at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Helen worked in retail for many years and then continued her career at Wisconsin Physician Plus Insurance Company in Madison, Wis., where she worked for 19 years before retiring in 1998.

Helen loved working in her garden and flower beds, which were meticulously groomed and her flowers were spectacular. She never missed any of her grandson's hockey or baseball games. She was a member of the People's United Methodist Church in Oregon, Wis. She was always ready to spend time with family, but especially her grandchildren, and will be sadly missed.

Helen was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Florence and Henry Hefty.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Rowland; her son, Michael (Rose Doucette); her daughter, Laureen (Ralph) Handy; grandchildren, Charlie (Paige Roy) and Elijah and Sophie Handy; and her great-grandson, Wayne Mickey.

Funeral services will be held at Gunderson Oregon Funeral and Cremation Care, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 3, 2023. Friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, Ill.
