Ponies Drop Two Games Last Week

On January 10th, the Monticello Ponies hosted Cambridge. Down 24-43 at the half, the Ponies struggled in the second half to catch up but ultimately could not overcome the deficit. The final score was Cambridge 80, Monticello 55.

The game was tied early on at 7-7 before the Blue Jays went on a 17-2 run in the middle of the first half. Cambridge came out of halftime with the same momentum and while Monticello outscored them, Cambridge pulled out the win.

Leading the Ponies with scoring was Jackson Eyler with 21 points, he also had 2 rebounds. Nick Roe scored 12 points and had 2 rebounds, Ian Schwartzlow scored 8 points, Austin Skibbe had 3 rebounds and Ryer Indergand had 2 rebounds.

On January 12th, Monticello played at Abundant Life Christian. ALC led at the half, 39-17, and won the game. The final score was Abundant Life Christian 76, Monticello 31.

Leading Monticello with 19 points was Jackson Eyler, who also had 7 rebounds. Ryer Indergand scored 5 points and Austin Skibbe put 3 on the board, while Zuteus Blades pulled down 3 rebounds.

“We haven’t come out on the winning side lately, but I am seeing the improvements that we hope for,” commented Coach Mark Olson. “If we keep working hard at it, hopefully that turns into success for the second half of the season.”

The Ponies played at Black Hawk on January 16th and hosted Albany on January 17th. They play at Barneveld on January 20th and host Argyle on January 26th.
