Randall L. Marty

Randall Lee Marty, age 78 of New Glarus, formerly a longtime resident of Monticello, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at the SSM Monroe Hospice Home. He was born the son of Leon and Leona (Strahm) Marty on December 25, 1943, in Monroe.

He was a 1962 graduate of Albany High School; he then attended Madison Area Technical College from 1963-64 for Accounting. Randy proudly served in the US Army from 1965-1967, stationed in Germany. Randall was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Block on August 5, 1967, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Albany. He was currently a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville.

Randy worked at a bank before he joined the Army; when he returned, he owned and operated the service station in Albany for three years. Once he sold the station, he started building houses; he then started working for Walnut Grove and he and his family moved to Monticello. He finished his working career as a handyman for Wisconsin Property Management in Madison, where he worked until his retirement.

Randy loved hunting, especially deer hunting, he greatly enjoyed his trips to Wyoming and Colorado with his dad and friends. He was also an avid fisherman and took several trips to Lake Erie with friends. In his younger years he played softball, basketball, and was on a bowling league; he continued bowling even into his retirement, he enjoyed playing billiards at the senior center in Monroe as well. He also liked woodworking and playing Sheepshead and Euchre. Randy loved to travel with his wife Kathy, going to Hawaii was one of their favorite trips. A couple of his prized possessions were cars. His first was a 1967 Pontiac GTO that he proudly saved up for while in the military and was able to buy when he returned home. His last was a 1989 Dodge Daytona that he bought and fixed up in retirement to enjoy showing off at car shows.

Randy is survived by his children, Marcia (Russ) Thiel of Janesville, Heidi (Trevor) Steiner of Mount Horeb, and Scott (Janet) Marty most recently of Chippewa Falls, WI; grandchildren, Jadyn and Emily Thiel, Hailey, Jenna, and Brinley Steiner, and Annabelle and Nathaniel Marty.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; and step-mother; and his beloved wife, Kathy Marty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison Street, Belleville, WI, with Father Mark Miller as celebrant. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe. Continued visitation will be held Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you and great appreciation to Glarner Lodge for the wonderful care Randy received during his time there. They would also like to thank all the volunteer drivers that took Randy to dialysis, and the SSM Monroe Hospice for their care and compassion.
