Why Wasn't Due Diligence Done?

October 20, 2022

Dear Editor,

We are responding to the letter in the Post about the new school wanting to pursue building a road at 8th Street and 11th Avenue. The Village Board would not pass a variance for the school to construct a driveway. Now they want to make it a road, so therefore the Village will have to maintain it, at taxpayer’s expense.

This has been a battle for our neighborhood. We have a lot of pedestrian traffic. Families, people walking their dogs, and runners. We do not feel it is safe place to put a road with heavy traffic, buses, delivery trucks and now adding more pedestrian traffic with children walking to school. There are lack of sidewalks in our neighborhood. We understand that in the referendum these roadways were on the plan, but why wasn’t due diligence done for the roadways before hand?

Deb and Bill Saunders,

New Glarus
