LaVonne Freidig

LaVonne "Boots" Freidig, age 89, a longtime Brooklyn and Belleville resident, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, in Fort Atkinson, WI. She was born on June 20, 1933, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, the daughter of Marvin and Vera (Forderbrueck) Grimm.

Boots graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1951. On September 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Charles Freidig at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Evansville, WI. She was a farm wife and mother who also worked at the John Deere Dealership in Brooklyn and wrote for the Brooklyn Teller. Later she would work in admissions at Madison General Hospital and then as a Legislative Aide at the State Capitol in Madison, from where she retired in 2001. In her retirement Boots worked at the Chalet Landhaus in New Glarus. She was a member of St. Mary's of Lourdes Catholic Church in Belleville, and was the director of the Christmas Pageant there along with serving as a 4-H leader. Boots loved music, especially listening to "Summer Haze". She followed and supported her children and grandchildren with their school and sports activities.

Boots is survived by her children, Don Freidig, Dale (Carrie) Freidig, Janeen Riese, Wendy (Tim) Kummer, Faye (Ed) O'Connor, and Billy (Carla) Freidig; grandchildren, Kimberly (Brian) Holt, Janelle (Gary) Jensen, Lukas Freidig, Tayler (Jan Lewis) Riese, Brent (Kristi) Riese, Heidi (Luke Volden) Riese, Sarah Sarbacker, Matt (Sarah) Sarbacker, Katie (Chad) Lanoway, Justin (Jamie) O'Connor, Jessica (Matt) Sigmund, Josh (Katy) O'Connor, Alexis (Zach) Grinnell, Haven (Michael) Holmes, Phoebe Freidig, Mackenzie (Tom) Fullmer, and Mason McDermitt; great-grandchildren, Abigayle, Ambre, Allyvia, Jaxon, Charlotte, Louie, Moe, Hank, Valerie, Griffin, Tanner, Lizzy, Brett, Charles, Andrew, Addie, Jayden, Jaxen, Jameson, Finn, Charlee, Mikka, Ronnie, and one on the way; and great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Greyson. She is further survived by her sisters, Jackie Elmer and Gail Grimm; brother, Ron (JoAnn) Grimm; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; infant daughter, Brenda; son-in-law, Mark Riese; daughter-in-law, Ann Freidig; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Emma Freidig.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI. Burial will be in the Belleville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Belleville Sports Booster Club.
