Lovenberg Prepares to Lead the BMS-BHS Wildcat Learning Community
August 18, 2022
"August is like the Sunday of summer." – anonymous
August often causes a mental shift in our focus from the leisure of summer activities, kids' sports schedules, picnics, pool-time and relaxing family outings to preparing for a new school year. As families begin their back-to-school shopping and commit to schedule planning to give their children the best foundation possible to succeed, the School District of Belleville has also been hard at work preparing for their students to have a successful 2022-23 school year!
To this end, the School District of Belleville is proud to announce Michael Lovenberg as its new Middle and High School Principal. Mike brings with him an impressive resume of administrative experience, including previously serving as the Whitewater High School Principal for the last five years; and, four years as a Middle School Principal in Wisconsin Dells – following his initial experience at Madison East High School as their Dean of Students and Assistant Principal.
While administrative experience is crucial to successfully lead Belleville and keep up with its high standards of academic excellence, Lovenberg understands what it means to shepherd a classroom of students towards success. Before entering administration, Mike taught both Social Studies and Special Education in the Madison Metropolitan School District and also coached and served as an extracurricular advisor. With his balanced experience in both the administrative and educator realms – and as a parent himself – Mike embraces understanding the "whole child" with his strong belief in a child-centered approach to education. He understands what is needed to make a solid educational team environment to support learning strategies in Belleville.
In this way, Mike is excited to continue to propel Belleville forward as he takes the helm this August: "As the Principal of Belleville Middle and High Schools, I am dedicated to continuing our students' successes and will strive to continue the positive relationships, rigorous learning, and the incredible environment that encourages our students to celebrate their unique strengths."
Mike received his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University in History Education and earned his Master's Degree in Education from Edgewood College. He holds Wisconsin lifetime licenses as a Principal and in History, Broad Field Social Studies, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities.
And...though "August is like the Sunday of summer" and it's a bit of an adjustment for everyone to accept the changes autumn will inevitably bring, the Belleville learning community is excited to welcome Michael Lovenberg as its new Middle School and High School Principal. Similarly, Mike is excited to begin work in this new role and has already found, "It's always a great day to be a Wildcat!"
