Raiders Win Regional Championship

The Sugar River Raiders varsity girls soccer team won the Regional Championship on June 4th.

On June 2nd, the Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team played a WIAA Regional game at home, against Monroe. The Raiders were seeded #4 for Regionals, while Monroe was seeded #13. The Raiders won it, 10-0.

First half goals were scored by Bella Brenkman assisted by Madi Winterburn and Hailey Thompson assisted by Paige Leonard.

In the second half, goals were scored by Hailey Thompson assisted by Anya Brenkman, Anya Brenkman, three goals by Samantha Schiro assisted by Lola Endicott, Hannah Boldebuck and Anya Brenkman, two more by Anya Brenkman with an assist on one by Abby Hendrickson, and Callie Smith.

Morgan Thompson recorded 1 save at GK.

The win against Monroe allowed the Raiders to advance to the Regional Final Game on June 4th against Platteville/Lancaster, who had been seeded #5 for the tournament. A close first half was played but Sugar River scored a goal in the second half to secure the 3-1 win, and the Regional Championship title.

Goals were scored by Lainey Winkers, Riley O'Flanagan and Anya Brenkman. Anya Brenkman, Lily Maynard and Lola Endicott had assists.

Morgan Thompson had 3 saves for the Raiders.

The Raiders will play at #1 seeded McFarland in the first round of Sectionals on June 9th. The winner goes on to play for the Sectional Championship against the winner of the #3 Evansville vs #2 Edgewood match on June 11th in McFarland.
