Nicole Marie (Francois) Koenig, 69, of Lake Mills, passed away early Friday, May 27, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Belleville, she was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Francois and Patricia (O'Neil) Francois; and her brother, Jim Wheeler.

Nicki had a lifelong affection for good friends and good times. She enjoyed laughter and brought smiles to countless faces at local establishments and to those who were close to her. A 1971 graduate of Belleville High School, she was a fiercely independent and intelligent person who was not afraid to speak her mind throughout her career working in insurance and banking.

Although she was a Wisconsinite through and through, she enjoyed traveling: Europe, Hawaii, NYC, California, and every spring, she couldn't wait to spend a month in Sun City, Arizona, with her friends and family. Nicki had a knack for telling it like it is. Those who knew her will never forget her cleverness, her warmth, and her mischievous smile.

She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Daniel Koenig; her beloved son, Nathan (Sarah) Maasz; and her pride and joy, granddaughter, Mikalina Maasz, who was born last June. She is also survived by her loving stepmother, Bonnie Francois; sisters, Melissa Francois and Meghan (Nick) Plagman; stepdaughter, Jaime Koenig; stepsons, Troy (Sheri) Koenig and Joshua (Meghan) Koenig; and step-grandchildren, Logan, Dustin, Christopher, and Aaron. She will be fondly remembered by many other friends and relatives.

Per her request, there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a private celebration of life this summer.
