A Note From The New Glarus Police Department:

Recent Complaints Reference Dogs

March 24, 2022

The New Glarus Police Department and the Village Hall have been receiving an increase in complaints reference dogs in the Village of New Glarus. The complaints are that dogs are running at large in the community, including the Village Parks. Dog feces within the parks and around the community is not being picked up by dog owners while out walking their dogs. The Police Department would like to share a few of the Village Ordinances with the community in hopes to better educate everyone on Ordinances pertaining to dogs and to hopefully rectify the issue before violators receive citations.

Ordinance 101-6(C) Animals Running at Large: No person, having in his possession or ownership any animal or fowl, shall allow the same to run at large within the Village. The owner of any animal, whether licensed or unlicensed, shall keep his animal tied or enclosed in a proper enclosure so as not to allow said animal to interfere with the passing public or neighbors. The leash is not to exceed 10 feet. The fine is $175.30.

Ordinance 101-8 Dogs and Cats Restricted in Cemeteries and Parks: No dog or cat shall be permitted in any public cemetery or park. Every dog specially trained to assist a disabled person shall be exempt from this section. The fine is $175.30.

Ordinance 101-10 Animal Feces: The owner or person in charge of any dog or other animal shall not permit solid fecal matter of such animal to deposit on any street, alley, or other public or private property, unless such matter is immediately removed therefrom by said owner or person in charge. The fine is $150.10.
