On Sunday, March 13th, the Belleville girls basketball team had their end of season Awards Night. The night started with Coach Tony Pharo talking to the team about what a huge success their season was compared to all the difficulties they had in 2020-21 with COVID. Last year, the team had to deal with no home games, practicing in an old Ford garage gym in Monticello, and many scheduling issues which led to the team finishing last year's season with 5 wins and 14 losses. With all of those difficult lessons behind them, the team really rebounded to have an amazing 2021-22 season to improve their record to 19 wins and 7 losses and finished with a share of the Capitol South Championship.
The night saw presentation of individual awards presented to several very deserving team members. Izzy Gomez, Mikayla Caskey, and Kailey Prochaska were awarded the WBCA 1st Team Award. Lainey Winkers received the team's award for Most Improved Player. Alyssa Caskey was awarded the team's Defensive Player of the Year. Kenna Edge received an award for breaking the school record of making the most 3-pointers in a single game with 8. Ava Foley and Callie Smith were both awarded with the team's Most Valuable Player awards as well as Ava being recognized for achieving the 1000-point career scoring milestone and Callie for breaking the school's all-time leading rebounding record as well as single season rebounding record. Mickey Stampfl was awarded this year's Coaches Award, which is presented to a senior member of the team who shows exceptional leadership on and off the court. Team Captain medals were also presented to Callie Smith, Ava Foley, Kenna Edge, and Mickey Stampfl.
The Wildcats also recognized three Senior athletes who received 2021-22 Capitol South All-Conference Awards. Ava Foley and Callie Smith were both awarded 1st Team All-Conference and Mickey Stamplf was awarded 2nd Team All-Conference.
In closing, Coach Pharo thanked his players, coaches, managers, school, and community for their support and great memories over the last three years.
