In 2020, artist Chad Caso painted the flag mural on the New Glarus Veterans Memorial Hall.
The 2nd Street Mural Steering Committee has chosen local artist Chad Caso to transform the old New Glarus Foods building at 421 2nd Street. Caso, a New Glarus resident, was chosen based on his proposed design and previous mural experience. Favoring a bright, bold palette, the mural will be an outdoor scene, with plenty of Swiss imagery that will speak to New Glarus' Swiss roots.
"We are so excited to share Chad's vision with New Glarus," said Bekah Stauffacher, Executive Director of the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce. "This mural will brighten up our downtown, and add to the fun experience New Glarus offers its visitors."
Caso, a United States Army veteran, has over twenty years of design experience, and has created murals for the New Glarus Veterans Memorial Hall, Falbo Bros Pizzeria, Atwood Barber Shop, Alchemy Bar & Grill, Mad Ink & Glass, and East Madison Community Center, among others.
The Mural Steering Committee that chose the artist and guided the design consists of Mike Sigman (Albion Swords), Kaye Gmur and Michael Ganshert (Village Design Review Committee), Kathy King (local artist), and Bekah Stauffacher and Annie O'Connor (New Glarus Chamber of Commerce). Albion Swords, who owns the building, has donated the use of its exterior to the project. The project is funded by the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce.
The building will be power washed and painted with a base coat in April, and painting of the mural is expected to begin in May and completed by June, weather cooperating.
