At 3:34 a.m., on Monday, March 7, 2022, Green County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Browntown Fire, Green County EMS and South Wayne Fire Department personnel, responded to the area of STH 11 and Cadiz Springs Road, Town of Cadiz, for a serious traffic crash involving a car and semi-truck. Investigation determined a 1997 Buick Riviera eastbound on STH 11 collided with a westbound semi-trailer towed by a 1999 Freightliner.

The 57-year-old male driver of the Buick Riviera, identified as Mark D. Brummel of South Wayne, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The truck driver, identified as David M. Schutt, 70, Darien, was uninjured.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Department Reconstruction Team performed scene reconstruction. The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with the commercial motor vehicle investigation.

Investigation determined Schutt was operating a 1999 Freightliner towing a 2001 Trailstar Semi Trailer westbound on STH 11. Due to icy road conditions, the Semi Trailer crossed the centerline and collided with the eastbound 1997 Buick Riviera operated by Mr. Brummel.
