February 3, 2022

On Friday, January 28th, the Monticello Lady Ponies varsity basketball team hosted Black Hawk. Monticello trailed at the half, 17-28.

In the second half, Black Hawk pulled further away, and shut Monticello’s offense down. Black Hawk won the game; the final score was Black Hawk 48, Monticello 28.

“We were in the game throughout the entire first half...until the last minute or two,” said Coach Lori Brokopp. “For BH, Tara Wellnitz was tough to stop. She had 23 points.”

Leading Monticello with 15 points was Ellie Gustafson, while Dalana Trumpy scored 8 points, Sarah Brokopp and Jaden Zuber 2, and Katelyn Eyler 1. Gustafson also pulled down 14 rebounds.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, the Lady Ponies played at Benton. Monticello was up by 10 at the half.

“The second half was completely different,” said Brokopp. “We turned the ball over, couldn’t hit shots and they out rebounded us.”

Monticello lost to Benton, 29-40.

With 11 points, Ellie Gustafson led the Ponies, while Dalana Trumpy scored 9 points, Jaden Zuber put 5 points on the board, Sarah Brokopp scored 3 points and Katelyn Eyler scored 1 point.

The Lady Ponies hosted Juda on January 31st. They will play at Argyle on February 4th and at Albany on February 8th.
