December 30, 2021

The Monticello Ponies varsity boys basketball team hosted Argyle on December 21st. The Ponies led 23-8 at the half and went on to win the game. The final score was Monticello 53, Argyle 19.

Seth Culberson’s 11 first half points helped the Ponies take a commanding lead, while Logan Bauman’s two 3-pointers boosted the offensive game. Argyle opened up the second half with a score, but Monticello went on a 16-0 run to extend their lead and win the game.

“The Argyle game was a defensive battle for a while,” said Coach Mark Olson. “Part way through the first half, we started to find a few scoring opportunities and were able to stretch the lead.”

Seth Culberson led the Ponies with 16 points and had 6 rebounds, while Logan Bauman scored 10 points and Jackson Eyler put 8 points on the board and pulled down 6 rebounds. Brayden Ryan and Kade Ace each had 7 rebounds.

On December 23rd, the Ponies faced the New Glarus Glarner Knights - the outcome of that game may be found in the article on page 9.

The Ponies are on the road for their next three games. On December 30th they play at Randolph, and will play at Belleville on January 4th and Barneveld on January 7th.
