Glarner Knights Overpower Ponies

December 30, 2021

On December 23rd, the New Glarus Glarner Knights headed south a few miles to play at Monticello. The Knights led 36-16 at the half and went on to win the game with a score of 66-38.

The Ponies took an early lead in the first minute and a half of the game, but New Glarus went on a 26-10 run shortly thereafter and stretched their lead to 20 by halftime. The Knights went on a 19-4 run in the second half to extend their lead to 35, and while the Ponies fought back with an 18-11 run of their own, they were unable to come out on top.

“We didn’t match their level of aggressiveness, and their combination of post play and outside shooting was too much to overcome,” said Monticello Ponies Coach Mark Olson.

New Glarus was led by Carter Siegenthaler with 17 points, while Dain Walter scored 16 points and had 7 rebounds, A.C. Strok scored 6 points and had 8 rebounds and Max Parman had 3 rebounds.

Kade Ace led the Ponies with 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Jackson Eyler had 8 points and 9 rebounds and Seth Culberson scored 6 points and had 5 rebounds.

The Knights hosted a tournament on Monday, December 27th, and Tuesday, December 28th. They were scheduled to play Deerfield on Monday, with their opponent to be determined on Tuesday. They will play at Barneveld on January 3rd and host Belleville on January 7th.
