Monticello Boys Victorious Over Albany and Black Hawk

On December 4th, the Monticello Ponies varsity boys basketball team played Cambria-Friesland at Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. Down by only 5 at the half, the Ponies kept pressing on in the second half but just couldn’t overcome the deficit. Final score: Cambria-Friesland 48, Monticello 38.
With 11 points and 12 rebounds, Kade Ace led the Ponies in both categories, while Ryer Indergand scored 8 points and had 3 rebounds, Jackson Eyler had 7 points and 3 rebounds and Seth Culberson pulled down 3 rebounds.
On December 7th, the Ponies hosted the Comets of Albany. Monticello had the 35-24 halftime lead and won the game. The final score was Monticello 80, Albany 50.
Ryer Indergand led Monticello in scoring with 20 points, he also had 5 rebounds. Kade Ace scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds, Evan Guenther scored 12 points, and Jackson Eyler and Brayden Ryan each scored 11 points. Ryan pulled down 7 rebounds, while Evan Rufer had 6 rebounds and Nick Roe had 5.
The Ponies traveled to South Wayne on December 10th to face the Black Hawk Warriors. Leading 24-16 at the half, the Ponies held on to that lead to win the game. The final score was Monticello 48, Black Hawk 31.
Black Hawk jumped out to an early lead in the first minutes of the game, however, the Ponies went on an 8-0 run in the next minute to secure the lead. Black Hawk fought back with 4 points of their own, but Monticello went 14-0 to take the lead back with less than 7 minutes left in the first half. The Warriors did take the lead again in the second half, but Monticello stepped up on both offense and defense and outscored Black Hawk 18-1 over the last 8:44 of the game. Monticello was 14-22 from the free throw line in the second half, as the Warriors had to foul to try to get the ball back.
Monticello hosted Wisconsin Heights on December 14th. They will host Pecatonica on December 16th, and Argyle on December 21st.
