Virginia Hefty, the oldest resident of Primrose Township, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at the age of 93. She was born Agnes Virginia Evenson on August 12, 1927, to Theodore and Mabel (Iverson) Evenson in Blue Mounds Township.

She attended the Erbe and Daleyville Schools, and was the last surviving member of her eighth-grade class. She met her future husband, Alvin Hefty, at one of the many dances she loved to attend at Turner Hall in Madison. They were married on April 25, 1947, at Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. Together they farmed for the rest of their lives in Primrose Township.

Virginia was a school board member for the Dixon School, and later in life she worked at the New Glarus Home from 1982 until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and spending time with her beloved family and friends, as well as crocheting, knitting, and making quilts. She was an active member at Primrose Lutheran Church, serving in the Ladies Aid, the Primrose Knotty Ladies, and as a substitute Sunday School teacher. Virginia was a dedicated volunteer for RSVP of Dane County, contributing over 22,000 hours towards her projects. Within this time, she sewed 2,200 quilt tops and crocheted over 2,000 blankets.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Janice) Hefty of Mount Horeb; a granddaughter, Emily Hefty-Dieckhoff (Joel Dieckhoff) of Verona; a grandson, Tim Hefty of Mount Horeb; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dennis (1959); her husband, Alvin (1999); sister, Lorraine Johnsrud; and brother, Orville (Doris) Evenson.

A private family service will be held at Primrose Lutheran Church with burial at the Primrose East Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to SSM Hospice caregivers to allow Virginia to stay in her home, as well as to Sister Georgeann and Pastor Nicole Espe for their spiritual support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to places which assisted Virginia during her life.
