Stephanie Mahr took a few minutes to pose with a gown at her new shop located at 112 6th Avenue, New Glarus.

In the little white shop at 112 6th Avenue, just up the hill from the New Glarus Hotel, Stephanie Mahr has opened Centered Threads, where she specializes in alterations for special occasion clothes including bridal gowns. Stephanie takes pride in her work and the relationships that she develops with clients. Simple alterations begin with hemming the length, adjusting the sides of the garment, and fine-tuning the fit. These types of basic adjustments are important for a special occasion outfit to look its best. Knowing that fittings and alterations can be stressful, Stephanie's approach is to help everyone relax and to bring her client's vision to reality.

Even though she is currently focused on alterations, Stephanie can also make custom designed outfits for her customers. She makes special occasion dresses, outfits, couture, and limited costumes for all ages. Anyone who would like to see some of her can find photos of her creations and alterations can find photos that she posts on social media.

Stephanie grew up in Adams-Friendship. In 2009, she began by teaching herself to sew, learning the basics of stitching and how to deal with different fabrics. Over the years, including years of working at Lands' End and then moving on to doing bridal alterations, she discovered that not only did she have a talent for sewing, but sewing and creating became a passion for her. Using what she learned, she began to make costumes for theater, how to work with delicate vintage fabrics, how to bead and even customize or create her own patterns. Stephanie understands the unique construction of special occasion dresses inside and out, including their carefully crafted details.

"I love figuring out a way to help people see themselves at their best in their outfits," Stephanie commented. Even her business card spells that out, saying "Your style, my skills. Let's do this!"

Centered Threads can be found on Facebook, Instagram and of course through her website at https://www.centeredthreads.com.
