Albany Teen Charged With Homicide

January 21, 2021

On the afternoon of January 12, 2021, the Wisconsin Department of Justice issued a press release with an update regarding the death of an infant in Albany earlier this month.

Logan T. Kruckenberg Anderson, 16, Albany, was arrested on January 10, 2021, on charges of First Degree Intentional Homicide and Hiding a Corpse. Kruckenberg Anderson is being charged as an adult and both charges carry Felony modifiers. Kruckenberg Anderson is currently being held at the Rock County Juvenile Detention Center on a $1 million dollar cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Green County Assistant District Attorney Laura Kohl on January 12th, the infant’s mother had given birth to a baby girl on January 5, 2021, at her home in a bathtub and that the father of the infant, Kruckenberg Anderson, had taken the baby and the mother had not seen her since. Kruckenberg Anderson advised a deputy with the Green County Sheriff’s Office that he had given the child to his friend “Tyler” on 01/05/2021, and he had not seen the baby since. Kruckenberg Anderson could not advise the deputy of his friend’s last name or phone number, and did not know exactly where he lived. Kruckenberg Anderson stated that he had met with “Tyler” at a park in Albany, and given him $60 to take the baby to an adoption agency in Madison. Kruckenberg Anderson also gave a vehicle description to the deputy, as well as a description of “Tyler”, whom Kruckenberg Anderson told the deputy had blocked him on Snapchat when he tried to contact him.

The mother of the baby told deputies that Kruckenberg Anderson had come to her residence shortly after the birth of the baby and they decided that Kruckenberg Anderson would give the baby to his friend to take to an adoption agency in Madison.

Kruckenberg Anderson told agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice/Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI that he and the mother of the child decided that they could not keep the infant and discussed several options including dropping her off at the local fire department. Kruckenberg Anderson told agents that ultimately they decided that he would simply drop the baby off somewhere. He put the baby in a backpack and walked to his mother’s residence in the Village of Albany where he placed the baby into a larger backpack and left the residence. Kruckenberg Anderson walked to a wooded area in the Village of Albany and placed the baby into a fallen tree. He stated that as he walked away, the baby began crying, so he covered her with snow and left the area. Kruckenberg Anderson told the agents that he was aware that leaving her naked and in the snow could cause her to die.

Kruckenberg Anderson then told authorities where they could find the infant. A deputy with the Green County Sheriff’s Office found the dead body of the infant in the exact location that Kruckenberg Anderson described.

An employee with the Wisconsin State Crime lab examined the body of the infant at the scene and observed a gunshot wound to the forehead of the baby. He noted that the baby was likely alive when she was placed in the snow, as the snow surrounding her was deformed as a result of body heat.

A detective from the Green County Sheriff’s Office as well as an agent from the Division of Criminal Investigation interviewed Kruckenberg Anderson and he admitted to placing the baby at the scene and shooting her twice. A spent shell casing was found at the scene, and a second spent shell casing was found inside the backpack that Kruckenberg Anderson used to transport the infant. A Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory employee located two fired projectiles in the ground close to where the body was recovered. Both of the projectiles were consistent with the shell casings that had been located. A male juvenile in his late teens provided a firearm to law enforcement and told a special agent with the Division of Criminal Investigation that Kruckenberg Anderson gave him the firearm on January 8th.

An autopsy of the infant determined that she died as a result of firearm homicide.
