Ponies Lose to Evansville Blue Devils

On Tuesday, December 29th, the Monticello Ponies played at Evansville. The Ponies were trailing behind the Blue Devils by 14 at the half and while they outscored the home team in the second half, it wasn’t enough to catch up. The final score was Evansville 67, Monticello 59.

The Ponies’ Peter Gustafson was the first to score in the beginning minutes of the game, but the Blue Devils went on a 14-2 run to go up by 12 with 12 minutes left in the first. Evansville’s Ryan Thompson hit three 3-pointers, two 2-pointers and a free throw to put the Blue Devils in the lead at halftime. With 7:30 left in the second half, Monticello’s Peter Gustafson went on an individual 14-2 to try to get the Ponies back into the game leaving the Ponies only 5 points down with 1:25 left in the game but Evansville was able to hold on for an 8-point win.

Leading the Ponies with 39 points (tying for his career high) was Peter Gustafson, who also had 9 rebounds. Rudy Wicker scored 10 points and had 4 rebounds, Kade Ace scored 4 points and Tristin Flanagan pulled down 3 rebounds.

Monticello hosted Barneveld on January 5th. They will play at New Glarus on January 7th, at Juda on January 8th and return home to host Belleville on January 11th.
