Hot Tub Fire Damages Rural New Glarus Home

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Green County Sheriff's Department was notified of a fire in a hot tub behind a house on Marty Road, west of New Glarus. Upon arrival it was reported that the back of the house was on fire. It was reported that the homeowners were home at the time, and spotted the fire. Everyone in the house was able to evacuate safely.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the hot tub, as well as a three season porch, were fully engulfed in flames.

A MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Box alarm was issued soon after units began arriving on scene. The alarm called for engines from Monticello, Belleville, and Mount Horeb; tenders from Monticello, Blanchardville, and Argyle; a squad from Verona; an ambulance from New Glarus Area EMS; a chief from Monticello; Monroe Fire Department was requested for a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) team. A second alarm level was issued for an engine from Juda; tenders from Monroe, Albany, and Brooklyn; a squad and chief from Fitchburg; Albany Fire Department for a REHAB tent and change of quarters, McFarland Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the porch and hot tub and it did not reach the interior of the house. There was some damage inside of the house, as firefighters worked to ensure that the fire had not extended into the home's interior.
